A Lesson in Productivity

One morning I found myself not being as “productive” as I initially planned. I laughed when I realized I had spent my time between clients taking care of myself: meditating, resting and a nourishing meal and it was perfect.

Our learned conditioning tells us that being productive means constantly doing more, achieving more and never slowing down. This mindset often traps us in a loop of stress, where we prioritize tasks over our well-being. The irony is that this endless pursuit of productivity often leaves us feeling depleted, rather than accomplished and fulfilled.

What if we redefined productivity to value our well-being as much as our achievements? Taking time to meditate, rest and enjoy a nourishing meal isn't unproductive—it's essential. This kind of self-care enables us to show up fully in our work and personal lives, bringing more energy and intention to everything we do.

By learning to bring awareness to our inner voice, we can identify the unrealistic expectations we've internalized and begin to replace them with more compassionate and realistic ones. Take a moment today to listen to your thoughts. Notice any patterns that prioritize tasks over well-being. By recognizing these, we can adopt a healthier relationship with productivity to create a truly meaningful life.
